Dear mom’s,
I want to wish each one of you a joyful Mother’s Day! My own mother passed away in 2003. She was a very special mom :)
And while I am a mom myself to a daughter who will be leaving for college in September, I always like to remember some of the fun times I had with my own mom growing up. And I like to share those stories with my daughter Hayley. One of those memories was the time my mother took me on a business trip with her to a convention in Palm Springs. I was only 12 years old, but I felt so grownup that weekend. My mom introduced me to all of her business collegues, and ordered me my first Shirley Temple, and I got to sit and have dinner with all these grownups. I clearly remember being at a sunset gathering around the pool of the hotel and glancing across the pool to find my mom and finally catching a glimpse of her….so beautiful in a sleek, garnet colored sleeveless dress with the most fabulous broach and thinking, wow, how beautifully elegant my mother as she shined. And her loving glance back towards me to this day is worth a million dollars. She was the best mom God could have sent to guide me into adulthood.
So moms, if you like my story, please like this on Facebook. And more importantly, please take a moment to share a “mom moment” with the rest of us. I for one would love to read some of your own heartfelt memories.
Warm regards ladies, Patty

Quiet on the Set

This time of year seems to be so full of rush rush and go go that we moms need to remember to take a few moments for ourselves. Maybe it is enjoying a cup of tea or meeting a friend to get a manicure, it may even be just sitting on the couch for five minutes at the end of the evening. Whatever it is for you, take the time for yourself, because we know that we are happier mommies when we feel just that bit of relaxation. Maybe this week’s picks will entertain the kids while you take that moment!
Take a look at our Moms Speak Out section above, this topic is so hot right not and so important, I would love to get your feedback on bullying! As they say out here in Hollywood, "lights, camera, action!"

We are excited to let you know about a new TV series, Secret Millionaire, that will be debuting on ABC tomorrow evening, Sunday March 6th, at 8:00PM EST/7:00PM CST.
Based on the hit UK series of the same name, each episode of "Secret Millionaire" follows one of America's most successful business people for one week as they leave behind the comforts of home and their true identities to live and volunteer in some of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the country. Assuming new identities and living in local housing on welfare-level wages, their mission is to discover the most deserving individuals within the community who continually sacrifice everything to help those in need, and ultimately encourage others to do the same.
Throughout this incredible, life-changing experience, the Secret Millionaires come face to face with extraordinary people who put their own needs aside for the sake of others. At the end of the Secret Millionaires' journeys, in an emotional and dramatic climax, they reveal their true identities and donate their own money to these community activists, changing lives forever and encouraging others to keep giving back.

Ten Family Activities to Enjoy While Anticipating the Arrival of Spring Break and Warmer Weather!
by Stacey Gliniewicz

I don’t think anyone would disagree that this winter has been a long one for most families across the country with record amounts of snow and below freezing temperatures. This always seems to be a tough time of year as the excitement of the holidays has come and gone, we’ve recovered, and then think, “What next?” Spring! But it seems so far away, and if your house is anything like mine, you have children with cabin fever and counting the days until spring break and warmer weather finally arrive!
I’ve compiled a list of some favorite, budget-friendly, and fun activities that will hopefully make time seem to pass quickly until we can finally wear those shorts and flip flops!
10. Start making plans for your family square foot garden. Include your children in the plans, letting them choose their favorite flowers, veggies, and fruits. Make sure you are able to grow them according to the vegetation zone in which you live. If you are not sure, contact your local nursery, they will be able to tell you which plants will thrive where you live. Plant your seeds in the starter trays and watch them grow!
9. Clean out your kids’ closets. Go through warm weather gear and make a list of the items each child is in need of for warmer weather. This will allow you to take advantage of the spring and summer sales, rather than having to pay full price once warm weather has arrived. March is actually the best time to purchase flip-flops, they are typically cheapest at this time. Donate any outgrown clothes to your local charity, don’t forget to get a receipt!
8. No big plans for spring break? Plan a mini stay-cation for your family including a day trip to your family’s favorite local spot. Unplug for the week and include activities like family game night.
7. Having trouble getting your kids to pick up their toys after months of being inside? Create a reverse scavenger hunt. Assign each child to find all of their toys, and return the toys to their home. First child to complete their scavenger hunt gets a treat from the treasure box!
6. Schedule a family movie night and pizza picnic. Order pizza in and eat it while you watch a family friendly movie! When the movie is over, talk about it with your kids. Ask questions like, “What was your favorite part of the movie?” or “Which part of the movie did you like least?” Then talk about the moral story of the movie, take advantage of the teachable moment.
5. Plan a picnic lunch and afternoon at the park. You’ll ensure that your family gets a boost in their daily dose of Vitamin D when you choose a warmer day in the extended forecast to have a picnic at the park! Plan to stay for some play time. Invite some friends to join you. Don’t forget the soccer ball and frisbee!
4. Plan a baking day. Choose a few of your favorite spring and summer baking recipes to bake and include your kids. Then share some of your homemade treats with your neighbors. Your kids will get a good lesson in the kitchen and your neighbors will enjoy your thoughtfulness!
3. Who says the grill is only for warmer weather? Plan a preseason cookout with family friends or neighbors. Enjoy some of your favorite warm weather grilling foods and goodies.
2. Plan an age appropriate science experiment with your kiddos. There is so much fun to be had with this activity! What kid doesn’t love hands-on science? You can find various science experiments by simply doing a quick search or visiting some of your favorite kid friendly websites. Most ingredients for the experiments can be found in your kitchen cabinets!
1. Sign your family up to volunteer at a local shelter, soup kitchen, or church. It’s easy to pick up the phone and make the appointment. Your kids will learn the value of giving back to their church or community and feel good about doing so!

What can I say, I am fascinated with the phenom that has become Bieber Fever! So without further ado, let all the girls in your household scream to their delight with this week's movie pick. Be sure to see the National Board of Mothers® suggestion at the end for what age is appropriate. Enjoy!
Never Say Never
Release Date: February 11, 2011 MPAA rating: G Starring: Justin Bieber Running Time: 105 min
This is the story of a little boy, loved by his mom who dreamed big and through dedication and perseverance is getting to live his ultimate dream. Justin Bieber has taken the country by storm with Bieber Fever. Never Say Never takes you on the journey of his quest to live his dream, from his early childhood years to his recent sold out concerts and everything in between.
This movie teaches how hard work pays off when you believe in your dream, be kind along the way, and always remember where you came from. In a time where our country sees lots of turmoil and strife, this movie is an uplifting opportunity to teach the kids how dreams really can come true. You come away with a respect for the dedication it takes to rise to the top and an appreciation for the talent of a young boy who wasn’t afraid to dream big despite people telling him he would never make it.
The National Board of Mothers® is happy to give this movie the Seal of Approval but does not recommend this movie for viewers under age seven.

It's a wrap! I hope you enjoy our picks this week and I can't wait to hear your Bieber feedback! If there is something you would like to see on this blog please email me at Family Values Cinema. See you next Friday!
