Having worked in the home video industry for many years, Patty has seen the destructive influence of movies and television on American families from the front lines. It wasn’t until she became a mom that she experienced the shortage of dependable, wholesome "family-friendly" entertainment. Seeing many other moms face the same problem, Patty formed a book club-like group for the purpose of seeking out and sharing quality family movies with one another. That mom group grew into a movement, and the National Board of Mothers was born as a resource all parents could trust to evaluate the family-friendliness of movies that have been “Mom Reviewed & Mom Approved”.

As the National Board of Mothers grew, so did the list of “Mom Approved” family movies they were sharing with each other. Meeting moms from all walks of life, Patty learned that, regardless of cultural, religious and political beliefs, almost all parents would like to actively limit their children’s exposure to the sex, violence, and language so pervasive in today’s media. At the same time, Patty grew increasingly aware how wholesome films with positive messages could serve to enhance a family's faith, values, bonds and sense of togetherness.

With her background in the home video business, Patty felt uniquely suited to meet the growing demand for family-friendly home entertainment by launching a service that could provide families everywhere with “Mom Reviewed & Mom Approved” movies. Soon enough, the service added elements such as family discussion guides, movie-inspired recipes and family activities in order to create an entire family-fun movie-night experience in each package.
